Nuova Fontauto’s bulletproof vests are constantly updated. Our jackets are made of a special fabric that helps perspiration and ventilation during the period used on the human body by limiting transudation. Each jacket complies with the new regulations, and is certified to the USA N.I.J. STD 0101.013. 0101.014, guaranteeing maximum protection for vital organs with a lower weight and thus allowing a wide freedom of movement.
All garments are available in one size and in the three basic IIA-II-IIIA ballistic levels, we also offer the possibility of inserting additional plates on request. In our “Specials” section, there are products for various special units of the land army corps, the navy and the air force. Like any other of our products, they are made with high quality materials, and are proof that our over 100 years of experience has made us leaders in the sector.
Bulletproof vests generally only offer front and back protection, but the more expensive ones also guarantee side coverage. There are two scales of power in the jacket, American and German. The American scale is the NIJ: level 1, level 2, level 2 bis, level 3, level 4. Increasing the level increases the resistance to the caliber, weight and speed of the projectile.
In level 4 salvation is guaranteed by a projectile caliber 30-06, 10.7 grams and 878 m/s. Inside a soft fabric tunic there is a structure consisting of a deformable plastic (polyethylene) covered with layers of super-resistant textile fibers such as kevlar. That behave similarly to the polycarbonate sheets of the glass, dispersing the strength of the projectile on the entire surface.
Only Kevlar is not sufficient against violent clashes from sharp objects, to improve this aspect, it is treated with polyethylene, a fluid that changes density depending on the speed and strength to which it is subjected.
Most powerful jackets shall be increased by interposing kevlar panels with metal panels, ceramic or plastic, able to break the tip of the projectile and absorb better the fragments. The metals used are steel, aluminum and titan. The ceramics are boron carbide and silicon carbide. The plastic panels are polyurethane. The choice of the type of panel influences the weight, which can reach 15 kg.
